Relay wildlife sightings

I was lucky enough to see a wide variety of wildlife on my legs and while I was manning the base early in the morning. At Strathyre, a red squirrel crossed the track in front of me; at Lochinver I watched two otters playing in the bay at low tide while on the sat ‘phone to Miles at 04.30 on Monday morning, at Loch Ailsh Donna and I saw a family of black-throated divers (parents and two tiny chicks) just a few metres from the shore as we were running; and on the drive back to Lochinver from that leg an osprey flew right across the windscreen so we could see the whites of its eyes. What a stunning country Scotland is. Kathy

It really was a big adventure

It's difficult to remember what exactly was in my mind back in January when I first thought running a 500 mile relay off road across Scotland might be a good idea. I mean really, 500 miles? All that running in the dark, getting no sleep and then getting up and doing it again? For 4 days? Surely that's impossible? And it would have been impossible without the enthusiasm, hard work, energy and sheer belief that we would do it from everyone that took part. I can't imagine a better team for such an immense undertaking. A huge thank you to the whole team, not just for doing it, but for making it so much fun.

I didn't take enough pictures, but here's one I like from the very last leg. We'd been crossing a bog for close to an hour at this point and if you look carefully you'll see that Donald is still smiling. Well, he's not crying anyway.

No way home

After arriving at Cape Wrath around low tide, Dave and Donald will be too late for the regular ferry across the Kyle of Durness.
Kathy is attempting to organise a special ferry while Derek helpfully suggests hiring these lads waders and sending them across on the last boat.

blogging

It's taken until this afternoon to pluck up the courage to look at the tracker - what an amazing job you are all doing!  Huge progress!  Working out this blogging lark has been a bit of a nuisance but hopefully I have and can now communicate with you.  I guess phone reception is a problem for most and that will reduce the number photos and blogs from now on.  I'll be watching your progress with interest though.  Relieved to hear that you are expecting reinforcements for Sunday.  Keep up the good work.
